PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for the repair, maintenance and installation of commercial air conditioning, heating, and building automation systems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Have a valid Texas Driver’s License and meet/maintain insurance requirements of PISD. Must pass drug test and be part of a random drug testing program. Must pass criminal history check.
  • Complete apprenticeship training or two years technical training preferred. Ability to red blueprints, schematics, interpret instructions, and prepare simple specifications. Must be able to work without direct supervision. Certified in refrigerant recovery
  • Minimum of 5 years as a Commercial HVAC Technician preferred.
  • Must have thorough understanding of basic mechanical and HVAC principles.
  • Ability to learn maintenance and repair techniques for antiquated and new HVAC systems.
  • Ability to work well with peers and supervisors.
  • Capable of making independent, on the spot, “safe to operate” decisions regarding safety of students, staff and general public.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Capable of providing maintenance, diagnosis and repair of commercial HVAC systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Scheduling of HVAC and lighting at all PISD facilities
  • Communicating with HVAC technicians in field to help solve mechanical and control issues
  • Working with vendor regarding the design, operation and repair of BAS systems
  • Perform installation, maintenance and major repair on commercial HVAC equipment
  • Completes work orders concerning repairs and adjustments
  • Makes routine adjustments to start or stop seasonal equipment
  • Adjust air flow, safety devices, and thermostats
  • Repairs major HVAC equipment such as compressors, pumps, motors, and other related equipment
  • Completes preventative maintenance of equipment as assigned.
  • Must have working knowledge of computer systems in regards to email, time entry and work orders
  • provides maintenance, diagnosis and repair of:
    • Carrier 23XL 350 screw chillers up to 350 tons
    • Carrier, Trane, Daikin, York air cooled chillers up to 250 tons
    • Raypack, Sellers, Rite, Ajax, AO Smith, Lochinvar, Patterson Kelly, PVI, Teledyne Lars and HP Thermific boilers
    • VRF systems
    • Cooling towers and water source heat pumps
    • CW/HW pumps
    • VFD systems
    • Carrier flotronics control systems
    • Building automations systems-i.e. Siemens, SLC, Unify
    • New HVAC equipment as added to district
  • Must be willing to respond to occasional after hour emergencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

 

      Electrical Test Equipment, vacuum pumps, computer, refrigerant recovery

      machine, hand tools and power tools

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

       Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

       Must be able to work from ladders and elevated platforms, lift heavy items and

       have full use of all faculties; duties require working in dirty areas, as well as,

       outside in undesirable weather conditions. Exposure to wet and cold conditions;

       exposure to noise and vibration. Exposure to direct sunlight, high temperature and high

       humidity. Occasionally works in a well-lighted, air onditioned building; work

       environment includes electrical hazards
