Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance and record keeping of fire alarm systems; responsible for maintenance, installation and repair of electrical systems
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Texas State Journeyman Electrical License preferred
- Have a valid Texas Driver’s License and meet and maintain insurance requirements of PISD
- Must be willing to acquire a Texas Class A commercial driver’s license
- Must pass drug test and physical and be part of a random drug testing program
- Must pass criminal history check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must be familiar with basic fire alarm system: installation operation and maintenance
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, interpret instructions, prepare simple specifications
- Must hold State of Texas Fire Alarm License
- Must have working knowledge of computer systems in regards to email, time entry and work orders
- JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICAL LICENSE PREFERRED
- Minimum Experience: Five years as a Journeyman Electrician preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Inspect, coordinate and oversee fire alarm additions and new installations, including sprinkler systems and maintains fire alarm and sprinkler systems;trains personnel on fire alarm use; keep accurate records of all activity pertaining to fire alarm systems in buildings
- Coordinate inspections for hood system and fire extinguishers
- Plans, lays out, installs and repairs fuse boxes, switch panels, electric controls, electrical wiring, and electrical fixtures as needed
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of the electrical system of fire alarm systems, HVAC equipment, refrigeration, intercom systems and building electrical systems
- Performs removal and replacement or repair of electrical equipment such as light switches, receptacles, defective wiring, light fixtures, generators, motors and motor starters as needed
- Measures, cuts bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using such tools as hack saws, pipe threaders and conduit benders
- Completes preventive maintenance inspections of equipment as assigned
- Determines general scope of repairs needed: orders and installs materials and parts; tests continuity of circuits to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using standard instruments
- Participates in the installation of new or modified fire alarm and electrical work as directed; completes work orders and turns in to supervisor upon completion of job
- Complete work order assignments related or unrelated to electrical work as directed
- Respond to occasional after hour emergencies
- Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
Must be able to work from ladders and elevated platforms, lift heavy items and dig
ditches; must have full use of all faculties
Environment:
Duties require working in dirty areas, as well as, outside in undesirable weather
conditions; exposure to wet and cold conditions; exposure to noise and vibration,
exposure to direct sunlight, high temperature and high humidity; occasionally works in
a well lighted, air-conditioned building; work environment includes electrical hazards
