Primary Purpose:
To provide instructional support to teachers and to serve as an instructional liaison between the district Curriculum and Instruction department and the campuses.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in the content area
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in conent area
- Master's degree in Curriculum or Administration, preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Proven, effective campus instructional leadership
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of teaching experience at the secondary level
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Disseminate relevant and timely information to teachers and campus leaders regarding the STARR/EOC.
- Plan for and conduct weekly horizontal meetings to plan instruction and assessment.
- Develop model lessons that reflect rigor, relevance and best practices and share with other campus and district specialists, teachers, and other staff members as appropriate.
- Ensure that all teachers are familiar with and use the TEKS and specifically the STudent expectations to drive instruction.
- Model the effective use of research based best practices in demonstration lessons for teachers to observe.
- Conduct daily observations/walkthroughs in order to: Monitor instruction order to provide support, Collect data, Evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum, Provide feedback to teachers.
- Support new teacher and teachers new to PISD/campus to ensure a smooth transition
- Attend district staff development activities and C&I meetings for the purpose of sharing information,ideas for improvement, lessons learned and teaching strategies with campus specialists from other campuses and with district specialists.
- Provide opportunities for teachers to observe in other teachers' classrooms by covering classes when appropriate
- Collaborate with campus team members to design, schedule, and implement tutorial sessions, TAKS Blitz programs, and STAAR/EOC review sessions.
- Lead data analysis activities to determine campus strengths/weaknesses and facilitate discussions to inform instructional decisions.
- Plan for and/or participate in campus, district, state and other appropriate staff development activities.
- Provide the Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Gr. 7-12 with feedback regarding needed staff development in the area of instructional delivery, the effectiveness of the new curriculum, and in the implementation of new programs, initiatives, etc
- Maintain classroom observation records and anecdotal information for discussion and review purposes
- Serve as a liaison between the campus and the district office in regards to instructional and curricular needs on the campuses Assist District Specialist with the:
- Planning, scheduling, and delivering of summer staff development sessions for all PISD teachers
- Development of curriculum documents including audits/rewrites/revision activities
- Development of the district assessments-benchmarks, CBA, six weeks/semester exams
- Curriculum development for summer credit recovery, PLATO, enrichment, and initial credit programs
