Primary Purpose:

 

To effectively provide clerical support to the college and career readiness programs and activities on the high school campus.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

 

High School Diploma or GED

 

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Serve as positive liaison between parents, teachers and students

  • Ability to monitor, evaluate and determine effectiveness of college readiness and awareness programs

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

1.  Assist the College Now Counselor in serving as point of contact for all college readiness initiatives on the high school campus which may include Dual Credit, AVID, Early College High School, Gulf Coast PASS, and Houston Endowment College Readiness Initiatives Grant Team College

 

2. Communicate with campus counselors regarding graduation plans, course selections, and grades of students taking college courses for dual credit

 

3. Assist the College Now Counselor in collaborating with San Jacinto College shared planner and San Jacinto College dual credit coordinator to promote dual credit program through parent meetings and campus promotion campaigns

 

4. Serve as point of contact for college and university representatives to schedule campus meetings and provide up to date information to students regarding post-secondary information

 

5. Assist the College Now Counselor in assisting students with post-secondary planning including researching colleges and the application process for both college admission and financial aid

 

6. Provide clerical support to campus preparation programs for college admissions testing including SAT, ACT, and PSAT

 

7. Provide clerical support for financial aid parent information nights and FAFSA completion events

 

8. Assist the College Now counselor with campus college application initiatives including parent information nights and application completion events

 

9. Assist the College Now counselor with a spring semester campus decision day event to showcase senior students who have committed to attend a college or university after graduation

 

10. Maintain the college/career room and ensure that all materials provided are up to date

 

11.  Receive visitors and telephone calls and screen those which can be handled without the supervisor’s help

 

12.  Keep College Now Counselor’s calendar and schedule appointments

 

13.  Maintain confidentiality

 

14.  Perform other duties as may be assigned

 

Equipment Used:

 

Multi-line phone system, typewriter, computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine, calculator, postage meter, letter folding machine

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures and data; coordinate district functions.

Computer work, work with frequent interruptions.
