High school diploma or GEDValid Texas Educational Aide CertificatePAC Test (No Child Left Behind) / 48 College HoursBilingual Test (if applicable)   Special Knowledge / Skills:  
Ability to work with special needs studentsAbility to work with students without direct supervisionAbility to understand and implement requirements as stated in an Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.)Ability to deal with students in a fair but firm mannerAbility to restrain disruptive studentsAbility to work in a stressful situationAbility to maintain confidentiality issues    Experience:   Previous work experience with children   MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
Assist teacher in routine classroom management dutiesAssist in preparing instructional materialsAssist in maintaining classroom environment and suppliesAssist students in homework preparation, test takingModify teacher's assignments, tests, and other instructional entitiesMaintain records, files and other pertinent documents on each studentCommunicate students' needs to faculty and staffAssist in maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty, staffAssist in implementing student's behavior management planAssist in the loading and unloading of the school busesParticipate in the activities involved with physical education classesAssist with individual student's personal hygiene needsFeed or assist students in feeding themselvesLift, move, and position students in a variety of settingsBe aware of student's various medical concernsEscort students to different locations in the buildingMonitor students during various activities during the school dayBe able to work with any student as determined by the student’s I.E.P.File various documents in students’ foldersAssist in orienting students to class schedule each semesterObtain any necessary textbooks for different programsPerform other duties as determined by the special education teacher or the principal   WORKING CONDITIONS:   Mental Demands:   Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) instructions; ability to hear and place the location of sounds; maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions    Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:   Ability to see close up, at a distance and peripherally, ability to lift and carry 50 lbs, ability to push and or pull 100 lbs, ability to maneuver wheelchairs, walkers or other wheeled apparatus, ability to physically restrain disruptive students, ability to reach above the head or straight out from body, ability to stand continuously for at least 30 minutes, ability to use hands in performing certain tasks, such as diaper changing, feeding, and helping with life skills |
