Primary Purpose:

 

Manage the performance of crossing guards by monitoring and evaluating their duties. Making assignments, and coordinate any training needed to insure the safe crossing of children going to and from schools in designated cross walks during assigned times in school zones. Secondary focus is to assist in the daily operations in the Police Dispatchers area as needed. Responsible
for reception, switchboard, and relief for dispatch.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Required TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certification/training will be provided.
  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers license and be able to drive vehicle.
  • Bilingual Preferred.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Be able to communicate clearly in English
  • Be able to manage, supervise, evaluate, recruit, train, and discipline employees.
  • Basic dispatch working computer and software skills with dispatching experience preferred.
  • Be able to identify, evaluate problems, and resolve them and document them as needed.
  • Be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Overall working knowledge of the districts school locations and administrative personnel.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous dispatching experience preferred with a working knowledge of the district.
  • Must meet and maintain a very high level of confidentiality and responsibility.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Interpret district policy, departmental procedures, evaluate school assessment needs, and coordinate school district functions, schedules, in order to maintain proper crossing guard assignments.
  2. Report to the Captain any traffic related issues concerning cross walks, intersection traffic lights, flashing school signs and any unsafe related conditions concerning crossing guards.
  3. Assign, issue and maintain the necessary equipment needed for crossing guards.
  4. Responsible for answering the administrative phone lines and directing callers to the
    appropriate person or department.
  5. Process crossing guards time sheets.
  6. Responsible for scheduling, training and evaluating crossing guards.
  7. Perform crossing guard duties as needed.
  8. Relieve and assist dispatch as needed.
  9. All other duties assigned by Supervisor.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Mental Demands:

Be able to verbally communicate effectively, maintain emotional control under stress and work in close quarters with other dispatchers. Receive telephone complaints and request for information and refer them to appropriate department or personnel.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Prolonged and irregular hours, repetitive hand motions, prolonged use of a computer, steady phone interactions, moderate standing, sitting, walking, bending and lifting and work outdoors in different weather conditions.
